Blessings or Renewal of Vows or Symbolic Ceremonies
Blessings or Renewal of Vows Ceremonies or Symbolic Ceremonies can either be civil, performed in Greek by the registrar and translated into English, or religious, performed in English by the Baptist Church Minister and can take place at any outdoor location. The ceremony takes about 20 minutes but no legal documentation is required for Blessings / Renewal of Vows or Symbolic Ceremonies. You will be given a “Celebration of Marriage Certificate” as a memento which is of no legal value though.
Civil ceremonies can take place at many outdoor locations of your choice. A lot of these locations offer reception facilities if you want to avoid the extra cost or trouble of moving your guests from one place to another.
Catholic Religious Ceremonies
Catholic weddings take place in the Catholic Church of St. Mark in the centre of the town of Zakinthos and are conducted by the English speaking priest usually on Sundays between mid June to mid September and on weekdays during the rest of the year. The documentation and procedure required is the same as that which is required if you were marrying in your local church apart from a written permission to marry outside your parish. Your local Priest will confirm the documentation if you visit him.
Please note! Catholic Church weddings can only be arranged if neither of you has been previously married. At least one of you must be Catholic and you both need to have been baptized.
Baptist Religious Ceremonies
Baptist weddings or blessings can take place at any outside location and can be conducted by the English speaking Minister of the local Baptist Church on any day of the week except Wednesday.
Please note! Baptist weddings can only be arranged if neither of you has been previously married.
Orthodox Religious Ceremonies
Orthodox weddings take place in most local churches both in the town of Zakinthos and the countryside. They are conducted by the parish priest in Greek and they can take place most days of the week but traditionally they take place on Saturdays and Sundays.
Please note! The originals of the legalized documents are either sent to us by registered post or copies are emailed to us at least one month before the date of your wedding and we will have them translated for you into Greek and the Greek translation legalized before they are submitted to the Town Hall.
Please note! The originals of your documents must be brought with you when you travel to Greece. No ceremony can take place without submitting the original documents to the Greek Authorities. We cannot be held responsible if you do not bring the necessary original documents with you when you arrive in Zante.
